This elegant Scottish design mahogany tall case clock dates from the early 1800's. Professionally cleaned and oiled, the 8 day movement strikes the hour with a gorgeous chime. The worn dial has traces of the name, "Will Bar (?) Hamilton," see photos. There is also a label inside the lower door, "Clock made by Smith of Leith Street Ter. 1805, Knox Robb Collection, 16 Barony St., 1940, Edinburgh (been on 16 Barony St. since 1830)." See photo for painted inscription on backside.
The mahogany case is in very good condition, there are a few repairs as would be expected. The dial paint appears original with black touchup to the Roman numerals, and the brass bezel is hinged to open for winding the clock. Size is 18" wide, 9" deep and 6'7" tall. Q-C2814 |
