A very charming French country wall clock is a great runner, and has beautiful brass repousse dial surround and pendulum. Often called a "wag-on-the-wall, " the Morbier movement is a traditional farmhouse classic dated 1870. The 8 day movement has been cleaned and oiled, and repeats its hourly strike (in case you weren't paying attention the first time) and also strikes the half-hour. Note some holes in the hand-hammered brass. There is some crackling on the porcelain dial, signed by noted clockmaker, "Menard Charleuf, a Montceau-les-mines." Montceux is a town of 30,000 in Burgundy, southwest of Dijon, once famous for its coal mines. The deeply embossed pendulum is embossed "1870 Strasbourg," when that beautiful city was still French, before its disastrous loss to Germany. The clock case is 15" wide, 19" tall and 7" deep, including the pendulum, height is 5' total. G-C1287
