Traditional Celtic motifs were hand-carved in solid oak to create this historic Victorian 1880's secretary desk, said to be from Ireland.
From inside a locked compartment, two secret letter compartments can be pushed open. Heavy weight brasses appear original. The finish has wonderful old patina, and there are mars and shrinkage separations. Every board on this antique furniture is hand planed, drawers have hand-cut dovetails, and the charming carving is richly detailed.
The finish appears original and is excellent, this desk is completely solid and usable. when opened the writing surface rests on two pull-out supports, and is 31" above the floor. The chair in the last photograph is not included. Measurements are 37" wide, 22" deep, and 40" tall. D-D1737 |
