Authentic Country French or Provincial furniture from about 1790, this historic armoire is solid cherry on the front, and chestnut on the sides and back. Entirely hand made, every plank is hand hewn and planed, some are diagonally sawn. Back feet have been restored and the interior floor replaced perhaps 100 years ago, the gracefully arched crown has been rebuilt.
Warm and satiny, the rich finish is very fine with glowing antique patina. Doors have some warp-age, see photos, and original hand-wrought hinges. The old lock may also be original and works with a later giant key. Corners are secured with hand-carved wooden pegs. There are repairs, shrinkage separations and losses as would be expected on a true antique of this age with lots of character - wood beetle holes, mars, and stains.
The empty interior could be fitted with shelves to rest on the crossbars, or with a closet pole as desired. This rugged and usable historic furniture measures 5' 2" wide, 26" deep, 7' 8" tall and the interior is 19" deep.
