A spectacular Victorian 1870's "rotary" or swivel desk has two banks of drawers that swivel out from the center. The slanted top is natural saddle leather, behind is a brass filigree gallery that flips open, revealing tiny tiger maple stationary, inkwell and pen compartments. There is a lock on the lift lid, inside is another tiny drawer.
The original finish is in fine condition and the beautiful golden oak is accented with ebony. This exquisite desk has just enough wear for character and warm glowing patina. There are old repairs and touchups at the edges, see photos.
The right and left swivel banks of drawers have chamfered bottoms and tiny hand-cut dovetails in solid mahogany, also miniature square nails. At the right rear is a door giving access to a large compartment for large maps and drawings. This compact rotary design recalls the famous "Wooten" desks of the same period.
Measurements of this charming English antique furniture when closed are 29" wide, 24" deep and 34" tall, open width is 4' 8" total.
This desk has been rephotographed and relisted. This item has sold.
