Hand made about 1825, an English Regency period secretary desk has a bookcase top with Gothic arched doors. The polished old finish is in wonderful condition with warm antique patina on gorgeously figured mahogany. The subtle inlaid satinwood banding is exceptional. There is lots of character - stains, shrinkage separations from age, warps - see photos.
The separate upper bookcase section has adjustable slide in shelves. Inside the desk are tiny drawers and cubicles with old ink stains, pull out rests support the lid when open.
This historic English furniture is very functional with lots of storage. Drawers have tiny hand cut dovetails and oak sides. Brass locks are operational. Brasses appear original, there are no other holes on the graduated drawers that fit and slide well. Block feet and crown are well proportioned.
Size is 42" wide, 22" deep, 79 1/2" tall and the writing surface is 30" high.
