Hand-made with square nails and wooden pegs about 1850, this charming solid pine jelly cupboard is from a farmhouse in France. Designed to hold the entire jam and jelly supply from the fall harvest for the rest of the year, there was always a lock and key to reduce "shrinkage" from hungry children.
The polished deep finish is excellent with warm patina and lots of character, mars and wear to show its age.
The back is rough sawn and attached with square nails on this very rugged country furniture, corners have been reinforced, see photos. Door panels are chamfered inside, drawers have oak sides.
Measurements of this country antique furniture are 51" wide, 21" deep and 52" tall.
