Hand-made with square nails about 1860, this charming country pine and maple jelly cupboard is said to be from Ohio. The finish is excellent with warm patina and lots of character - stains, mars, splits and wear - to show its age.
This very rugged country furniture was designed to hold the entire jam and jelly supply from the fall harvest for the rest of the year. There was always a lock to reduce "shrinkage" from hungry children on these nostalgic cabinets, the lock was behind the knob and is missing, perhaps jimmied by a hungry teenager. Drawers have hand cut dovetails, the sign of an expert country cabinetmaker.
Measurements of this American antique furniture with a dovetailed gallery are 48" wide, 18" deep and 54" tall.
