An authentic country secretary desk was hand crafted in Sweden about 1740. Strong and still very functional, this desk is chestnut and ash hardwoods, all hand planed and hand dovetailed together.
Original wrought iron locks and giant keys are operational, but the drop front lock does not quite line up. Beautifully figured grain has a very fine satiny finish with just enough wear for a little antique patina. There are stains, shrinkage separations from age and minor mars at the edges for character, see photos.
The fall front rests securely on pull out supports. Inside, the center door has a royal crown and monogram marquetry panel, artistically inlaid in various fruitwoods. Inside are sliding buttons that lock banks of drawers, one of those drawers hides another button to lock yet another bank of tiny drawers. The base was rebuilt over 100 years ago.
Dimensions of this historic and picturesque furniture are 49" wide, 24" deep, 43" tall and the desktop is 29" high.
