This Empire or Biedermeier design furniture from about 1840 looks to be a secretary desk, but the front is "faux," it is really a very charming armoire or wardrobe.
The old finish is very fine with wonderful antique patina on glowing matched fruitwood, there are just enough mars and wear for a little character.
A lock in the door is operational, the key in the top drawer is for a handle only, that lock does not work. Keyhole covers are carved of abalone shell. Legs are hand carved on this historic piece, entirely hand made in Austria.
Measurements are 40" wide, 21" deep and 65" tall.
