A very fast, safe and heavy convertible, this 1984 model 500 SL roadster is in great running condition. This is a great touring or highway car, smooth riding and agile, with a wonderful throaty roar. The deep blue cloth top is recent, the original hardtop plus hoist and pulley to hang it are also included. A small backseat has safety belts, and folds down for extra luggage space. Wide radial tires are recent, and this sports car has "Zender" bumpers.
Always garaged, this car was stored winters and only driven in summers, it has no rust. The body is excellent, there are small scratches and wear, see photos. Dash and shift knob are genuine and original exotic African hardwood. Dark blue leather is soft and supple with some wear as shown.
Headlights are adjustable, rolling up and down for mountain driving. There are two different pairs of driving or fog lamps, only one set works. The "economy" gauge is stuck by a decorative button that fell off under the glass. Air conditioning stopped working several years ago because it needs a charge. Heated seats still work, there is an aftermarket Pioneer stereo with CD player.
Purchased 10 years ago from a collector who got it from his father, I have driven it from 39,000 miles to the 75,000 it has now, or less than 4000 miles a year, so keeping this car is sort of ridiculous. Service records show work done as needed - brakes, ignition, battery, starter, cruise control, etc.
I have too many cars to store, and my kids are now too big for comfort in the small back seat, so I have regrets about selling, just like everybody else giving up a roadster.
Only 1793 of the 1984 500 SL roadsters were built by Mercedes. VIN on the Wis. title is WDB10704612002108, the ebay system will not accept this "gray market" number, apparently because it was not sold in the U.S., so they advised me to list the VIN as 00000000000000 to bypass their system.
