An intriguing dowry cabinet was hand made in India, the design is a colonial hybrid of English country furniture and Indian workmanship.
Inlaid with rosewood and other exotic hardwoods, every surface is hewn and hand planed, wooden pegs secure the joints. Crafted of solid genuine teak, the finish is very good.
Inside the base, behind the lower drawers, are five secret compartments, see photos.
A stenciled side of a tea crate was recycled as a drawer bottom. This antique from the mid 1900's has lots of character - irregularities and charming variation.
Between the pairs of doors there is space for a shelf if desired. A closet pole was installed inside, but not original.
Dimensions of this charming and rugged rustic cabinet are 51" wide, 27" deep and 75 1/2" tall
