A spectacular country French or Provincial furniture, this two door armoire from about 1790 is in remarkably fine condition. The frame is wormy walnut with shaped panels of cherry, hand carved square wooden pegs secure the joints.
Every board is hewn and hand planed, this armoire is structurally sound and usable. Deep moldings and shaped panels are exquisitely proportioned.
The waxed old finish is very fine with glowing antique patina with various mars and shrinkage separations for character. Inside are two shelves and two drawers, all removable - the interior could be reconfigured with a closet pole or shelves if desired.
The wrought iron lock and gigantic key are incredible, the key has a double throw action, and when turned a third time, unlatches the door. The crown is removable for delivery of this historic treasure from France, the crest is truly a work of art.
Measurements are 66" wide, 29" deep, 99" tall and the interior is over 22" deep.
