This late Victorian or Eastlake period cylinder or barrel rolltop secretary desk with bookcase top dates from the 1880's.
Very well-proportioned, it is made of solid walnut with a smooth gliding cylinder or barrel roll top of beautiful matched burl. The finish is excellent with warm patina, and behind original wavy glass doors are adjustable bookshelves. Both door locks and keys are working.
Behind the roll are cubicles for papers, tiny drawers and a slide-out writing surface with saddle leather. Embossed solid brass pulls are original on the drawers, which have the round pin and cove dovetails characteristic of the period.
The upper bookcase section is removable for easier handling. Measurements of this American made antique furniture are 83" tall, 37 1/2" wide, 24" deep, and the writing surface is 29" high.
