Expertly hand crafted about 1800 during the Georgian period, a solid mahogany secretary desk has inlaid banding and marquetry designs. Understated and elegant workmanship is exquisite on this very functional furniture.
The satiny finish is in excellent condition with warm antique patina. Graduated drawers have solid oak sides and bottoms with delicate tiny hand cut dovetail joints. There are mars and shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Brass hardware was replaced about 80 years ago, and feet have been rebuilt, which is not unusual for a secretary this age.
The drop front rests on pull out supports. Inside are "secret" drawers. Two are accessed from inside the center locking compartment which has a flame grain door with a marquetry medallion.
Dimensions of this historic desk are 47" wide, 23" deep, 44 1/2" tall and the writing surface is 32" high.
