Still keeping excellent time, an authentic Georgian 1820 era tall case or "grandfather" clock has its original hand painted dial. The brass 8 day movement strikes the hour and has been cleaned, professionally serviced and oiled.
Hand made of mahogany, the case has a wonderful old hand rubbed finish with warm antique patina. In the base is an octagonal panel with beautiful flame grain. Square nails are visible on the pine backside. There is old wavy glass in the door, turned columns have brass capitals. Original hand painting on the iron dial depicts a prophet or poet in a bucolic setting with sheep and a local castle in charming ruins.
Just where in England this historic clock was made is unknown, there are only faint illegible traces of the maker's signature and town still visible. Various chips and touch ups show the dial was not repainted, see photos. Brass hands are hand engraved.
Dimensions of this imposing and historic furniture are 27" wide, 10" deep and 8' 3" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
