A marvelous example of late Victorian or Eastlake furniture from about 1885, a secretary desk with a barrel or cylinder roll top has a bookcase above.
Solid walnut with matched burl, this imposing desk has a very fine finish with minor mars at the edges for antique character. The removable bookcase has original wavy glass doors and shelves that adjust on wooden supports, the lock still works.
Under the rolltop lid is a pull out writing surface with saddle leather plus small drawers and cubicles for paper. Lower drawers have round or pin and cove dovetail joints, characteristic of the era. Delicate incised or "spoon" carving, fluted moldings and ornaments are beautiful on this American made furniture.
Measurements of this imposing and functional desk are 46 1/2" wide, 24" deep, 93 1/2" tall and the desk top is 30" high.
