A magnificent 2 pc. bedroom set includes a queen size bed and dresser or chest with marble top and mirror, carved in the late Victorian or Eastlake style about 1880.
Subtle and delicate detailing shows the influence of the Aesthetic Movement, especially the Japanese inspiration on the ebony plaques.
This set has solid walnut with contrasting burl inlay, genuine ebony panels have incised carving. The finish is in excellent condition with small irregularities that are characteristic of burl wood on this American made antique furniture.
Expertly adapted to a standard modern queen size mattress, the bed has beautiful original side rails. Wood slats are included to support a mattress and spring unit that are 16" thick together as shown.
The dresser has a swivel plate glass mirror and engraved bronze hardware. Drawers have "pin and cove" round dovetail joints of the period, the center drawer for valuables has a working lock and key. Two tiny drawers above are nice for jewelry. The marble has been polished and sealed to resist stains. Size is 55" wide, 24" deep, 85" tall and the marble top is 29" high.
