An authentic Country French or Provincial sideboard or server pewter cupboard was hand hewn about 1790. Solid wormy ash and oak hardwood was hand planed and attached with carved wooden pegs on this historic furniture from France.
Hand carved in northern France, the removable upper galleries would have displayed a woman's family pewter and china - these heirlooms and the cabinet were part of a bride's dowry, descending through daughters. Hand wrought iron hardware and lift off hinges are original.
Every surface is uneven and irregular, showing the skilled hand work characteristic of the late 18th Century. There are losses from age on the rough sawn back and bottom.
Dimensions are 51" wide, 24" deep and 83" tall. The serving area is 37" tall.
