Hand crafted about 1780 in northern Italy, an exquisite solid oak secretary desk has an arched bookcase top.
The old finish with warm patina has been revarnished recently. There are various restorations plus shrinkage separations and wear on this historic furniture.
Hand cut dovetail joints, square nails, mortise and tenon joints and hand planing marks are all authentic. Locks and keys work, the drop front rests on pull out supports.
Inside are 11 small drawers plus a locking compartment. Upper doors have carved pegs at the corners. Brasses are about 100 years old but not original on this very functional European country antique. The upper section has original wrought iron handles on the sides.
Measurements are 46 1/2" wide, 23" deep, 75" tall and the desktop is 29 1/2" high.
