This secretary desk was hand crafted in Italy around 1900 of solid oak. The old finish with some newer revarnishing preserves lots of antique character, dings, wear and shrinkage separations from age. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina.
Wrought iron side handles are original, brass hardware is old but not original. The lock on the dropfront does not work, the key is a handle only. Pull out arms support the lid. Inside are eight small drawers plus a locking compartment with inlaid banding and a star on the door. All drawers have hand cut dovetail joints on this historic European furniture.
Every surface shows hand planing, sides are single wide planks and the front has wooden pegs at the joints.
There are various restorations over the years, and size is 39" wide, 19" deep, 39 1/2" tall and the desktop is 30" high.
