A lovely secretary desk with double bookcases was artfully hand carved by a master with bird and foliage vine motifs about 1870, during the late Victorian or Eastlake period.
Solid walnut, the old finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina. There are ink stains inside plus mars and shrinkage separations from age for character.
Rosy brass hardware is original on this American made furniture, drawers have hand cut dovetail joints. Bookshelves are adjustable. Wavy glass doors and the center mirror are original. Delicate details show Esthetic Movement influence.
Two separate pieces for easier moving, dimensions are 52" wide, 22" deep, 7' 3" tall and the base is 32" high.
