Hand carved about 1850, a spectacular secretary desk has a bookcase top, secret drawers and a pull out desk.
Walnut with matched flame burl panels, the finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique. There are shrinkage separations for character, see photos.
The pull out desk is lined with contrasting curly or "birdseye" maple, the writing surface is natural saddle leather. Tiny drawers inside have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms, two also have false bottoms with secret drawers.
The removable bookcase has wavy glass mirrors that appear original, interior shelves adjust on wooden supports. Both door locks and keys still work. The hand planed back is secured with square cut nail.
Measurements are 51" wide, 21" deep, 8' 2" tall and the leather desktop is 30" high.
