Crafted for a general store to sell thread abut 1890, a solid oak Victorian spool cabinet and desk would also make a very nice jewelry cabinet. Original signing for "J & P Coats" thread is still visible on both sides.
Drawers have tiny "finger" dovetails. Paneled on all sides, the rich brown finish is excellent, preserving lots of antique character - mars and ink stains - and warm antique patina.
The slanting writing surface is hinged and has a saddle leather top, revealing a shallow space underneath wonderful for jewelry. Above is a pen rest and an replaced glass inkwell.
Solid brass "pumpkin" hardware is authentic. Size of this countertop American Victorian furniture is 30" wide, 20" deep, and 12" tall.
