From the fabled "Black Forest" region where France, Switzerland and Germany meet, this hand carved solid oak bookcase or china cabinet dates from around 1880.
The original finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina and just enough wear for a little character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its glowing luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
The upper section is a separate piece for easier moving. Original glass doors are wavy, the right door has a working lock and a slight warp, see photos. Shelves adjust on wooden supports. Drawers below have hand carved face pulls and hand cut dovetail joints. Carved game and fruit decorate the base cabinet of this historic European furniture.
Measurements are 54" wide and the base molding, 22" deep and 7' 9" tall.
