A spectacular secretary desk was hand crafted in Germany about 1870, and shows Biedermeier influence. The exterior has exquisite hand carving and matched flame grain mahogany. The gleaming finish is excellent throughout.
Large drawers have original mother of pearl keyhole escutcheons, working locks and solid oak sides with hand cut dovetail joints. Inside is genuine rosewood with marquetry and motifs of knights in armor. Tiny drawers have onyx inlaid brass knobs. The writing surface is old leather with gold leaf tooling. There are shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Measurements are 41" wide, 22" deep, 66" tall and the writing surface is 33 1/2" high.
