Hand crafted about 1875, this gracious and functional Victorian secretary desk has a cylinder or barrel roll top. Solid walnut with matched burl panels, the original finish has warm patina with just enough wear and mars for antique character. The top shelf has been rebuilt and varnished for durability, the rest has been waxed and polished, so an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is all that is needed to maintain the warm luster.
Pulls are original on this American made furniture. The roll glides smoothly, inside are small drawers and cubicles for papers. Carved handles pull out the writing surface, the center is natural leather. The wide drawer has hand cut dovetail joints. There is a shrinkage separation from age on the side panel as shown. The lower door key is a handle only, the lock does not work.
Dimensions are 44 1/2" wide, 23" deep, 43" tall and the desktop is 30" high.
