An elegant French 1890's mantel clock set is rose marble with a sculpture of a mother and child plus side urns. The statues and urns are spelter, a white metal alloy similar to pewter with an original deep patinated bronze finish.
The brass clock movement has been professionally cleaned, oiled and adjusted, it runs accurately for a week on a winding. A silvery bell rings the half hour and counts the hour.
The maker signed the porcelain dial, the town is "Alencon" in Normandy, north of Le Mans. Famed for its hand made lace, the ancient town was also known for resisting a siege by William the Conqueror from 1049-1051. The searching mother and pointing child sculptures are very naturalistic on the antique European set.
The clock measures 12" wide, 6" deep and 17" tall, side urns are 5" wide, 5" deep and 13" tall.
