Hand hewn of solid cherry and pine about 1840 in France, this bread dough box was used to "proof" or raise homemade bread dough.
The finish is in very fine condition, preserving lots of mars, wear and losses for antique character. Hand cut dovetail joints and carved wooden pegs show the work of a masterful country carpenter.
Useful as a mudroom bin for mittens or as a planter, this picturesque antique furniture measures 36" long, 18" wide and 28" tall.
