A traditional "coromandel" six panel screen from China depicts an imperial garden and pavilion scene, the back has bird and flower motifs and is about 60 years old.
The classical technique is to paint many layers of colored lacquer, topped by black, then carefully carving into those colored layers to "reveal" the design. There are significant losses at the edges plus long scratches on the back side that have seen restorations and touchups, see photos. This Asian vintage furniture has lovely soft tones.
Panels are 16" wide, 1" deep and 7' tall, so if flat on a wall, width is 8,' in accordion folded as shown, width is about 6.'
