An authentic Country French armoire was hand crafted about 1780 of solid wormy fruitwood with ash burl panels. The old finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina on this antique furniture from France. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Every surface has hand planing marks, carving is hand chiseled. Joints have carved square pegs, the drawer has hand cut dovetail joints and a chamfered bottom. There is a small warp from age to the right door as shown. The hewn oak paneled back is deteriorated from damp stone walls at the bottom, see photos, but this Provincial furniture is strong and durable.
An original iron lock still operates, wrought iron hardware and lift off hinges also appear original. Interior shelves are removable, depth is 18" so a closet pole could be installed if desired.
Measurements are 59 1/2" wide at the detachable crown, 53" wide in the body, 24" deep and 6' 10" tall.
