Signed in Holland in 1896, this solid oak hand carved bookcase has Gothic motifs and leaded glass doors. The Dutch label has the name of the cabinetmaker, in business since 1825 in Mechelen, Holland, plus the original customer in September, 1896.
The top and adjustable shelves are revarnished for durability, the rest has an original finish with warm antique patina. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Hand leaded wavy glass panes are intact. Door locks have individual keys, the drawer key is a handle only, that lock does not work. Linen fold panels and fretwork are authentic on this Dutch library furniture, which is two separate pieces for easier moving.
Measurements are 70" wide, 14" deep, 7' 4" tall and the base is 39" high.
