This set is subtitled "Our Popular Edition of our Living World - a Natural History by the Reverend J. G. Wood, revised and adapted to American Zoology by Joseph B. Holder MD." Published in New York by Selmar Hess, the set is copyrighted 1885. The brown and black leather bound volumes have deeply embossed gold tooling and the pages have gold edges. They are filled with color and black and white engravings of all sorts of animals, and are in good condition; there are losses and cracks at the bindings, and wear to the leather - see photos. One binding has been repaired, and four pages before the title page are partly torn. Each volume is 13" by 10" and 1 3/4" thick.
