This five-piece bedroom set includes a king-size bed, armoire with beveled mirror, 2 marble top night stands and a dressing table with mirror. Everything is made of burled walnut with sweeping curves and carved accents. Dating from about 1925, it is in truly wonderful condition everywhere. The golden brown finish brings out the intricate natural burl grain.
Everything fits well and is solid and very usable on a daily basis. The exceptional embossed cast brass hardware is all original, as are the beveled mirrors. The mirrors have just a hint of gold and spotting to prove their age. They could be resilvered but we find them more charming left original. All fronts and sides are curved, and this large scale set has a graceful lightness of design. Everything matches, the carving is very fine and hand done by skilled craftsmen; the only drawer in the set is hand dovetailed.
The bed has been adapted to fit standard American king size bedding. There are wooden siderails, and center legs to support heavy king-size springs and mattress. Measurements are 6'11" wide, and 7'3" long. The headboard is 5" thick, 4'11" tall, and the footboard is 33" tall. The nightstands are 22" wide, 15" deep and 27" tall. They both have charcoal marble with beautiful gold veining. The dressing table is 50" wide, 15" deep and 5'7" tall. A beveled mirror is in the center of the 3 door armoire, the left section has a closet pole, the center has a drawer at the bottom and is empty - it could be fitted with a pole or shelves as desired, and the right section has shelves.
