Fern, Polypodium Robertianum
21.5" x 14.5", Folio
From Thomas Moore's Ferns of Great Britain and Ireland, 1855
Henry Bradbury, Printers Bradbury & Evans. Whitefriars, London
In Martyn Rix’s book, The Art of the Plant World: Mr Rix had this to say about The Ferns of Great Britain and Ireland prints,
"The first book to show the beauties of nature-printing was Thomas Moore’s folio, The Ferns of Great Britain and Ireland, edited by John Lindley and printed by Henry Bradbury, who was instrumental in introducing nature-printing to Great Britain. It appeared in 1855. Colored inks were used for the printing: green for the fronds, brown for the roots. The results are especially beautiful for the fronds with their delicate toothing and veining."
