Cubist design with influence by Picasso is evident in this marble coffee table. There is an inlaid guitar and wine bottle, and it is signed "Figue."
This very heavy table is in wonderful condition, the base disassembles into flat pieces that notch together, and we see only minor chips to the edge and some missing grout of this original vintage furniture masterpiece.
Size is 29" wide, 37" long and almost 20" tall.
The edge is signed "Figue," which we take to be Colin Figue, born in England in 1943. He studied at the Royal Academy School of Sculpture 1966-69. After working for an extended period in Spain, he settled in southern Portugal in 1980. This artist has exhibited all over Europe and in China, Japan, Lebanon and India. In 1999, he was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Figue works in large marble sculpture, paintings, and bronze sculpture as well. Many of his works are visible on the gallery website, lightyears.org.uk Q-T5403 This item has sold.
