Pennsylvania Butternut Tall Grandfather Clock 1800's

$2,500.00 —

Item sold on 2009-10-14 - Shipped on 2009-10-13

This tall case or grandfather country clock dates from just after the American Revolution. The hand made butternut wood case, hand painted dial, and a brass movement with wooden plates help date this clock to around 1800. The hand planed case has a satin finish that brings out the golden natural butternut color - this is picturesque antique Pennsylvania furniture.

Cut nails show on the rough hand sawn back, and the weights and pendulum appear original. The 30 hour movement has been cleaned, oiled and adjusted. A good runner, a bell strikes the hour. Although unsigned, this type of movement and dial were likely imported from the Black Forest in Germany by Pennsylvania cabinetmakers for the cases they made. Size is 21" wide, 12" deep and 8'5" tall.
