This wonderful flame grain mahogany desk has a butler style pull out drawer that becomes a slanted leather writing surface with compartments inside. The upper bookcase section has old wavy glass panes in the doors and shelves adjustable on wooden supports.
Dating from the mid 1830's, this antique desk was hand made in the Eastern US. The wonderful old finish shows its age very well with some restoration, and beautiful matched flame or crotch grain mahogany.
Entirely hand made, the hand planed back is attached with square nails. The top surface just below the bookcase has interesting hand cut irregular plugs, see photos.
Built in 2 separate pieces for easy moving, this is historic furniture dates from the American Empire period. Measurements are 49" wide, 24" deep, 8'1" tall, and the writing surface is 29" from the floor. S-D1593 This item has sold.
