Welsh 1790's Grandfather Clock, Jones of Pwllheli

    This splendid tall case or grandfather clock was hand made in Pwllheli, Wales about 1790. It has been professionally cleaned and oiled and is in fine running condition. The case artfully mixes mahogany with inlaid marquetry of rosewood and oak. A signature on the handpainted dial is "Jno. Jones, High St., Pwellheli," a charming beachtown on the southern coast of Wales.

An eight day movement strikes the hour on this grand but understated hall clock. The warm radiant finish is beautifully polished and appears original. There are shrinkage separations in the bottom panel, see photos. A hand painted moon dial is atop this authentic Georgian antique clock. Dimensions are 25" wide, 10" deep and 7'7" tall. U-C3954
