A Victorian countertop brass and iron scale was patented Dec. 6, 04, and is signed "The Computing Scale Co., Dayton, Ohio, USA." Originally used in a general store, this antique scale goes up to 30 lbs. It computes the price from 4 to 60 cents per pound. There is some discoloration on the revolving drum of numbers in the 2 to 3 lb range - see photo. Built into the base is a leveling mechanism, the scale seems to weigh properly, and the magnifying glass and beveled round glass ends all appear original.
Lavish brass castings are very decorative. The curved glass on the customer side is broken, see photo, and the table of the scale has been replaced with a platter of Corian. There has been some repainting over the years, and dimensions are 19" wide, 21" deep and 31" tall. V-S1586 This item has sold.
