For hundreds of years, Dutch brides inherited a traditional "Kas" for their dowry. The classic shape of this armoire has a wide carved crown, doors with deeply shaped panels and large bun feet.
Native oak cabinetry was accented with exotic rosewood and ebony from the Dutch colonial East Indies. To unlock the door, a beveled block of ebony slides to reveal a keyhole. Inside are shelves and a drawer for valuables, and embroidered linens.
The intricately carved crown is removable for moving, and the lower drawer was later fitted with felt silverware holders.
Polished to a satin gleam, the glowing finish on this antique furniture from about 1915 is original. Size is 5'1" wide, 23" deep and 5'8" tall. X-A526 This item has sold.
