A very elegant Biedermeier or Empire period one-door armoire has a front designed to look like a drop-front desk. The glowing golden mahogany has matched intricate flame grain, and the polished finish is in very good condition.
There are numerous warps and shrinkage separations in this authentic antique from about 1835, and the left side of the front door is also warped, see photos.
The top valuables or jewelry drawer plus a wide drawer on the bottom have hand-cut dovetailed sides. Keyhole escutcheons are ebony, and this charming armoire has beautiful warm patina. The interior has 3 removable shelves. Everywhere, the wood is hand-planed, and the base has been rebuilt. Size is 45" wide, 21" deep and 5'2' tall.
