A luxurious antique Victorian combination jewel or dressing box is mounted in an ebony case with sophisticated workmanship. There are engraved silver plated covers on the hand cut crystal bottles and jars, and a button inside releases the jewelry drawer below.
The lock is signed "Chubbs and Son, London, Makers to Her Majesty," Queen Victoria and this box dates from about 1870.
Inside the lid is a compartment for stationery. A beveled mirror in a leather case and pincushion are in a removable mahogany tray. Two scent bottles have replaced stoppers that fit poorly. The genuine ebony wood case has its original finish and shrinkage separations in the top, there is a brass plaque that was never engraved. In the jewelry drawer is a ring holder plus leather and silk lined compartments.
