Signed "Jennens & Bettridge," this Victorian papier mache pen and inkwell holder is hand painted and inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Dating from about 1880, this Victorian desk set has a hairline crack on the right side of the pen rest area - see photo.
There is remarkably little wear to the delicate original painting and gold. Although it is impossible to be sure about original inkwells, this set includes an antique cobalt blue inkwell with hinged brass cover, and 2 cut glass inkwells with ground pontils and fitted stoppers that appear to be replacements.
Measurements of the stand are 9 1/2" wide, 11" deep and 4" tall, the tallest inkwells are 5 1/2" high. A-M381
