Hand made during the late Victorian period about 1895, this charming oak secretary desk has an upper bookcase section with glass doors and a carved front panel that drops open to a desk area with leather and tiny cubicles.
The finish, brass locks and pulls are original and in excellent condition. Simple moldings contrast beautifully with the intricately hand-carved detailing in the desk panel.
The upper section is separate for easier moving, and the shelves inside are adjustable. There is lavishly gold tooled leather on the writing surface, and the interior drawers and pen rest are mahogany. Lower drawers have tiny hand-cut dovetails, and underneath, the doors have raised panels.
This is very functional understated antique furniture in beautiful condition. Dimensions are 39" wide, 16" deep, 7'1" tall and the writing surface is 30" above the floor. A-S1689 This item has sold.
