Hand-carved of solid chestnut, this square dining, breakfast or game table has four sculpted figures in traditional Brittany costumes and wooden shoes.
The richly detailed folk artistry is from about 1890, and this table is very solid and usable antique furniture.
Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken. Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs.
The finish is excellent on this heirloom furniture, which traditionally descended with the daughters of a family, as part of their dowry.
Size of this picturesque table is 46" x 47," 30" tall and has 25" of legroom. A-T5658
