With its marble top, tile and mirror backsplash, this charming antique began life as a Victorian washstand for a bowl and pitcher in the days before running water. Today, it could serve as a server, bar or vanity for a vessel sink in a bathroom.
We didn't want to alter how it was originally, but it could be reconfigured for a bathroom by removing the splash and mirror section so as to hang it higher - it seems a little low for the height of people today.
Solid walnut, the gleaming finish is original, as are the brasses. The marble top is excellent, and the tiles are hand-painted. With a little "smoke" to show its age, the beveled mirror is also original to about 1880, and drawers have hand-cut dovetails.
Dimensions are 4' wide, 23" deep, 4' tall, and the top of the marble is 27" above the floor. A-W461
