Absolutely palatial, this antique bedroom set includes a king size bed, hand-carved cherubs and marble tops. Expertly crafted by master carvers about 1895, the set also has two nightstands, a dresser with tall mirror and a smaller chest with mirror.
The marble tops are in superb condition. Artistic high-relief carving with life-like graceful angels in natural poses, and swags of rosebuds is complemented by deep architectural moldings.
Mostly original with some re-varnishing, the finish is excellent, with some "character" - separations, small mars and losses - as would be expected in authentic antique furniture from this era. Embossed brasses are original and complete, the shaped and beveled mirrors are also original. Every piece matches exactly, and drawers have hand-cut dovetails.
Sleep like the royals in this historic set, which is truly memorable. The bed has been adapted to fit standard modern king size bedding, there are wooden side rails plus a center leg for extra support. Size is 7'4" long and 7' wide, headboard height is 6 1/2' tall, the footboard is 39" high.
The large dresser is 4' wide, 2' deep, 8'3" tall, the marble top to the floor is 41."
The smaller chest is 3'5" wide, 2' deep and 6'4" tall. The top cherub is missing the toes on one foot - see photo.
Bedside tables are a true right and left pair, each measures 19" wide, 16" deep, 57" tall, and to the top of the marble, 37" high. B-B2085 This item has sold.
