Authentic early 1700's hand-made antique furniture, this oak oval dining table has drop leaves supported by gate legs, and a drawer at one end. There have been many repairs and restorations over the centuries - see photos.
Purchased near Manchester, England by an American antique collector about 50 years ago, the finish is very warm and in very good condition. Every surface is hand planed and shows the wear of centuries, yet this table is very sturdy and usable on a daily basis.
Joints are secured by traditional hand-carved wooden pegs. Fine grained oak has stains and mars, all polished into the warm brown patina on this wonderful table. The drawer appears rebuilt with a bottom replaced about 50 years ago.
Measurements with the leaves down are 4'11" by 22," height is 29 1/2" tall. With the dropleaves raised, size is 5'5" long and 4'11" wide, distance between the end legs is almost 16." B-T5708
