This large blanket chest or immigrant trunk has a dome shaped lid and is inscribed "1829" inside.
The glowing finish is excellent, with beautiful golden color and patina. Wooden pegs are used instead of nails, and the corners have marvelous hand-cut dovetailed joinery.
Iron banding and handles are all hand wrought, the large lock is incomplete. Inside is a small compartment for treasures. The curved top was designed to keep this trunk on the top of a pile in a ship's hold, the flat top trunks went on the bottom.
Dimensions are 46" long, 23" deep and 36" tall.
